Where to Stay in Broome: My Top 6 Hotels in 2027

When it comes to staying in Broome, I really can’t stress enough how much location matters. There are essentially two main areas: Broome Town and Cable Beach, but your whole experience of this town can feel completely different depending on which one you choose.

Are you travelling to Broome to escape the Australian winter and your idea of a dream holiday involves walking to the beach every single morning? Do you want to be close to Broome’s markets, events and performances? Is having a great view from your accommodation important to you? Will you have a vehicle to move around?

For me, being able to walk to the main spots is a must. I just want to be able to leave my room and go for a wander without having to think about when the next bus is coming.

For someone else, being able to order a cocktail by the pool may be the most important part of their holiday.

So, rather than telling you which is the “best” place to stay in Broome, I’m going to break down the main areas and best accommodation options to help you find the one that suits your trip best.

Best Areas to Stay in Broome: Cable Beach vs Broome Town

When you’re looking at where to stay in Broome, there’s a choice you need to make first: do you want to stay in town, around Town Beach and Chinatown, or in Cable Beach? Once you know which area suits you best, choosing your accommodation becomes much easier.

The two areas are too far apart to comfortably walk between them. It takes around an hour to get from one to the other on foot, so where you stay will make a real difference to how you experience Broome.

CABLE BEACH

Cable Beach is Broome’s main resort area, centred around the famous beach. There are plenty of accommodation options within walking distance of the sand, ranging from just a couple of minutes away to around 15–20 minutes on foot.

There are also a handful of cafés, a couple of pubs and a few restaurants, most of which are located within the hotels and resorts. But beyond that, there isn’t a huge amount going on. Most of Broome’s shops, markets and other attractions are on the other side of town.

BROOME TOWN

By Broome Town, I’m referring mainly to the town centre, Chinatown and the Town Beach area. This is where you’ll find more of Broome’s everyday amenities, including shops, cafés, the Broome Historical Museum, the library and the post office.

There’s generally a bit more going on here than around Cable Beach, including the Thursday night markets in Town Beach during the dry season, and the weekend morning markets at the Courthouse.

The downside is that Town Beach, although beautiful, isn’t really a swimming beach. This is the mangrove side of Broome, so there’s a greater chance of spotting crocodiles in the water.

If you’re a wildlife lover, however, Town Beach Jetty is a great place to spend some time looking out over the water. I’ve seen turtles, rays, sharks and even the occasional snubfin dolphin from here!

If only the beach in town were as good for swimming as Cable Beach, it would be the perfect combination.

The 6 Best Hotels in Broome

Before we dive into my top recommendations, there’s one thing you should know: Broome is expensive year-round, but prices can reach ridiculous levels during the peak season. If you want to save a bit of money, consider visiting outside the busiest months of June, July and August. It will also be less crowded, which, for me, is a big plus!

1. Moonlight Bay Suites (Best Hotel with a View in Broome)

BROOME TOWN

If you’re looking for accommodation with a view in Broome, Moonlight Bay Suites is hard to beat. Located just a 10-minute walk from Chinatown, its self-contained One Bedroom Pool View and Two Bedroom Bay View suites offer incredible views over Roebuck Bay. You’ll wake up to the sound of birds flying over the mangroves and the sun rising over the bay. It’s quite a spectacle!

The best views are from the Two Bedroom Bay Views, which are the only suites with a private balcony. And I was lucky enough to get a free upgrade to one of them!

The recently renovated self-contained apartments have beautiful and clean interiors, while the property also has a 28-metre pool, outside barbeques and a small gym. It has everything you need to feel at home away from home. And the apartments are quite spacious!

Moonlight Bay Suites doesn’t offer some of the services you’d normally expect from a hotel. There’s no restaurant or bar on site, and no concierge, for example. However, they do provide a daily light housekeeping service, and the reception team is always happy to help with anything you need to make your stay more enjoyable.

Breakfast isn’t included, but you can order continental breakfast boxes to enjoy in your apartment.

If you fancy heading out for a drink or something to eat, Matso’s Brewery is just across the street, which is about as convenient as it gets.

For me, Moonlight Bay Suites is a great option for independent travellers looking for a quiet base from which to explore Broome. You can easily walk into town or to the markets, while still having somewhere peaceful to come back to at the end of the day.

The biggest downside for some people? There are quite a few stairs around the property and no lifts. This wasn’t a problem for me, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues or are travelling with heavy luggage. You’ve been warned!

2. Pinctada Hotel (My Top Recommendation for Broome)

CABLE BEACH

I booked one night at Pinctada Hotel for my boyfriend’s birthday, and I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. I knew the place had recently been renovated and rebranded — it was formerly the Kimberley Sands Resort — and its eye-catching marketing had definitely caught my attention. So I was keen to see for myself what all the hype was about. And I loved it!

The check-in process couldn’t have been smoother, and the reception area has a tasteful, modern design. There’s also an outdoor waiting area, which looks perfect for waiting for taxis or a tour pick-up.

Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. We stayed in a Pool View King Room, and it had everything we needed: a mini fridge, kettle, modern bathroom with a great walk-in shower, and our own private balcony with direct access to the pool area, as we were on the ground floor.

Even the little details were well thought out. There was ambient music playing when we arrived — not really an essential, but a nice touch that made the room feel welcoming from the moment we walked in.

The resort’s common areas are just as good. There’s a large pool divided into different areas, giving you a bit more privacy, as well as poolside bar service, a garden to wander around, a guest laundry and a gym.

We also had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Pinctada, and everything on the Mediterranean-inspired was delicious. Make sure you book a table in advance. They even surprised my boyfriend by singing Happy Birthday to him — although he absolutely hated being the centre of attention! So I stepped in, pretended I was the birthday girl and went full-on with my performance. I had a great time, and it was such a fun and unexpected touch.

Breakfast the next morning, which you can choose to include or not, was another pleasant surprise. Alongside the continental buffet, you can choose from several cooked breakfast dishes, as well as a small breakfast entree: I had a delicious yogurt parfait.

We only spent 24 hours at Pinctada, but it felt like we’d stepped into a little oasis away from the busyness of Broome’s peak season. It’s around a 15-minute walk to Cable Beach, with Four Fold Café and Divers Tavern roughly halfway there, so there are a few food options nearby if you want to get out of the resort. It was a great place for a romantic getaway!

3. Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa (Best Luxury Resort in Broome)

CABLE BEACH

I haven’t actually stayed at Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, but I’ve been here several times for dinner, cocktails and even breakfast. And honestly, there’s a whole little world inside this resort!

The location couldn’t be better. It sits right next to Cable Beach’s main recreation area, and it’s literally a two-minute walk from the resort to the beach.

The staff are everything you’d expect from a high-end resort, and the reception area is spacious, elegant and welcoming. There are two pools, including an adults-only ocean pool at the far end of the resort, complete with a bar and private areas where you can relax. There's also a gym and, of course, the spa.

There are several types of accommodation to choose from, ranging from smaller studios to larger family rooms, so there’s an option for different types of travellers.

But if that’s not enough to make you want to stay here, let me tell you about its best-kept secret: this is the best place in Broome to see wallabies! Yes, they roam freely around the resort grounds, so you might find yourself sharing the garden with one during your stay.

And even if you don’t end up staying at Cable Beach Club — because, yes, it is quite pricey — I’d highly recommend coming here for dinner. Both Cichetti, the Italian restaurant, and Kichi Kichi, which serves Thai-inspired fusion cuisine, are remarkably good. Make sure you book a table in advance!

If you’re looking for a proper luxury resort experience in Broome, this would be my pick. It’s particularly well suited to couples and families who want to spend plenty of time enjoying the resort itself rather than using it simply as a place to sleep.

One thing to be aware of: as of November 2026, the area directly in front of the resort is still under construction as part of the Cable Beach redevelopment, so the surroundings aren’t currently as pleasant as they normally would be.

4. Bayside Holiday Apartments (Best Cheap Accommodation in Broome)

BROOME TOWN

I stayed a couple of nights at Bayside Holiday Apartments the first time I visited Broome. I arrived at the end of August without a booking, and finding somewhere to stay turned out to be surprisingly difficult. I learned the hard way: you really want to book in advance if you’re visiting Broome during the high season!

After two nights, I moved into a hostel. If that’s more your style, I have a full Broome Hostels Guide that you can check out.

Bayside gets booked out quickly during peak season, as it’s one of the best budget-friendly accommodation options around Chinatown and Town Beach and there are only 12 apartments.

There are one- and two-bedroom apartments, both with a kitchen, living area and bathroom. The rooms are definitely a little dated — they have a bit of a grandma’s house feel to them — but they were clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate for a few nights.

There’s a free guest laundry on the property, as well as a swimming pool and secure parking, which is always a nice bonus when you’re staying in Broome. You can also catch a glimpse of Roebuck Bay from the pool area, although the rooms themselves don’t have bay views.

One of the best perks is that guests can also use the facilities at Moonlight Bay Suites, just around the corner. You actually collect your keys from Moonlight Bay Suites when you arrive, too. If you choose to stay at Bayside, make sure you take advantage of that magnificent pool!

I’d recommend Bayside for travellers who want a simple, self-contained apartment in Town without paying resort prices.

5. The Billi Resort (Best Luxury Glamping Stay in Broome)

CABLE BEACH

The Billi Resort is the kind of accommodation I’d pick for a special stay when you want something nice but a bit different. It’s a secluded green oasis in Cable Beach, with rooms tucked away among lush tropical gardens.

The Billi is a little further from the beach than other hotels, so having your own transport will be handy if you’re not a fan of walking. They also offer complimentary bike hire, which is a nice touch if you want to explore the area on two wheels.

The glamping bungalows have heaps of character, although you can also choose to stay in traditional studios and villas. I would definitely go for the tents! Ideally one with an outdoor shower. Give me an outside shower in tropical weather and I’m the happiest girl!

All the accommodation options are self-contained, and even the glamping tents come with their own kitchenette. They are also all air-conditioned, with one exception: the Luxury Queen Safari Tents have a ceiling fan instead.

There’s also a swimming pool (I think all hotels in Broome have a pool, if not two!), but no restaurant on site. The atmosphere is peaceful and laid-back, making this a great option if you’d rather escape the crowds and enjoy a bit of privacy.

And if you like this kind of glamping experience, why not take it out of Broome and spend a night at Eco Beach or Cygnet Bay? Both resorts are fantastic, and you’ll get the chance to explore what’s out of town!

6. The Mangrove Hotel (Best Hotel for Cruise Travellers in Broome)

BROOME TOWN

The Mangrove Hotel is another Broome classic, best known for its huge beer garden overlooking Roebuck Bay. The hotel regularly hosts events, including the popular Staircase to the Moon evenings. If you fancy watching this natural phenomenon with a glass of wine in hand, this is the place to do it!

The rooms are modern and comfortable, although I find the different room types a little confusing to navigate. Some offer views over Roebuck Bay, while others have direct access to the pool, so make sure you read the descriptions carefully before booking.

The hotel also has two swimming pools and two restaurants, so you have plenty of options without having to leave the property. One of them is Johnny Sausage, a magnificent Italian restaurant that’s only open during the busy season. I’d definitely recommend checking it out!

The biggest difference between the Mangrove Hotel and its next-door neighbour, Moonlight Bay Suites, is the type of accommodation and overall experience. The Mangrove offers traditional hotel rooms, with a breakfast cafe, bar, restaurant and occasional activities such as yoga classes in the communal areas. Moonlight Bay Suites, on the other hand, has larger, self-contained apartments where you can enjoy more independence. Both are clean, modern and well located, around a 10-minute walk from Chinatown.

Another advantage of staying here is its connection to the Kimberley cruises. The Mangrove Hotel serves as a meeting and check-in point for most cruise departures, so if you’re heading off on a Kimberley cruise, staying nearby can make things much more convenient.

On the other hand, because the hotel is such a popular social venue, you might not get the same sense of privacy you’d find at a resort like Pinctada or Cable Beach Club. This is especially true during Staircase to the Moon evenings and other events, when the public areas can get very very busy.

Still, if you enjoy having a lively atmosphere, good views and plenty going on without having to leave your hotel, the Mangrove Hotel is a great choice.

Other Places to Stay in Broome

To be honest, I’d happily stay at any of the hotels on this list. The’re all excellent choices depending on your idea of a dream vacation and, of course, your budget!

If none of these quite fits the bill, though, there are plenty of other accommodation options in Broome. I’ve included some more below, along with my thoughts on them. Most are perfectly fine, but there are a couple I’d personally avoid, so hopefully I can save you from making the wrong choice!

OTHER ACCOMMODATION IN BROOME TOWN

⁃ The Continental Hotel: A Broome classic! Spend the afternoon sipping cocktails by the pool before heading to Papa Fuego for dinner.

⁃ Oaks Broome: Nothing particularly exciting, but it’s right by Town Beach, making it a convenient option if you want to stay in this part of town.

⁃ Roebuck Bay Hotel: My advice? Stick to the pub and avoid staying at the hotel. Although it’s right in the middle of town, I wouldn’t choose to stay here. Theft can be a concern in this area, and the noise is another downside. Expect loud music on some nights, as well as the occasional group of drunk people making themselves heard well into the evening.

⁃ Discovery Parks Broome: Although it’s technically a caravan park, Discovery Parks also has some surprisingly nice bungalows. The location is a big plus: it’s right next to Town Beach, close to the Thursday night markets, and just around the corner from what I reckon is the best takeaway pizza in Broome.

⁃ Broome Time Resort: Located roughly halfway between Broome Town and Cable Beach, it is close to the Boulevard Shopping Centre but a fair distance from everything else. There’s not much that makes it stand out apart from the price. It does have complimentary airport pick-up service.

OTHER ACCOMMODATION IN CABLE BEACH

⁃ The Pearle of Cable Beach: Luxury Bali-style rooms and villas. Great place to stay on the higher end of prices, with a comfortable, modern and luxurious feel, but a bit far from the beach and the closest restaurants outside the complex.

⁃ Bali Hai Resort & Spa: Stands out for its Balinese-inspired style, private outdoor bathrooms and on-site spa. The restaurant, Bali Hai, is also very good.

⁃ Mantra Frangipani: Offers nice self-contained apartments and villas. One feature that guests love is the outdoor showers, which are great in Broome’s tropical climate.

⁃ Seashells Broome: Practical option for families or groups, with spacious apartments, three-bedroom bungalows, full kitchens and laundry facilities. It’s around 300 metres from Cable Beach.

⁃ Oaks Cable Beach: If you need a bit more room, Oaks Cable Beach has also large apartments available, including some with up to three bedrooms.

I took this picture when I worked as a housekeeper at The Pearle of Cable Beach, back in 2021!

Frequently Asked Questions About Broome

When is Best to Visit Broome? Dry Season vs Wet Season in Broome

The best time to visit Broome is generally during the dry season, from May to October, when the weather is usually sunny, warm and less humid. It’s also the busiest time of year, especially between June and August, so expect accommodation prices to rise.

The wet season runs roughly from November to April, bringing higher humidity, tropical downpours and the possibility of cyclones. On the other hand, it’s quieter, the lightning storms are impressive, and you might find better accommodation deals.

Is There a Bus in Broome?

Yes! Broome has a public bus service connecting the main areas of town. The route currently runs between Town Beach, Chinatown and Cable Beach, making it possible to get around without a car.

However, if you’re planning to explore beyond these main areas, having your own vehicle will make things much easier.

When Is the Staircase to the Moon in Broome?

The staircase to the moon is a natural phenomenon that occurs for three consecutive evenings each month between March and October, when the rising full moon reflects off the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay.

You can watch it from Town Beach, Moonlight Bay Suites or The Mangrove Hotel. If you don’t want to miss it, make sure you check the dates before booking your holiday.

Is Broome Safe?

Broome has a reputation for having some safety issues. It has improved a lot due to the higher police presence in recent years, although opportunistic theft remains something to be aware of.

My advice is to take a few simple precautions: lock your accommodation doors and windows, never leave valuables visible in your car, and avoid leaving items such as alcohol or cigarettes unattended. As you would anywhere, stay aware of your surroundings and take extra care at night.

How Many Days Should You Spend in Broome?

You could spend a couple of days enjoying Cable Beach, exploring Chinatown and visiting the main sights, but three to four days would give you more time to experience Broome without rushing. If you’re planning day trips or exploring the Dampier Peninsula, allow longer.

How Can I See the Dinosaur Footprints in Broome?

Broome is known for having millions-of-years-old dinosaur footprints, which can be found along parts of the coastline between Entrance Point and Gantheaume Point.

Yes, they’re really there! The problem is that there are so many marks in the rocks that it can be incredibly difficult to distinguish the actual footprints from everything else. Believe me, I’ve tried!

If you want to see them properly, I highly recommend joining a tour. There’s a dedicated Dinosaur Footprint Cruise that takes you to some of the best examples, but you’ll also get to see some during this Bus town Tour (a great overview on Broome, its landmarks and history) or on a Broome Trike Tour.

See you out there!
